The 4th Of July

Long time no see... We have been on a little getaway to Austin and New Braunfels. I have photos to post from that, but I want to get the water cameras developed first. (Remember when we used to develop film???)

We arrived home from that very fun trip on July 3rd, so the 4th was kind of a day to recuperate and rest for the most part. My sister and her family came over for a visit in the afternoon (and boy! do I wish I had pictures of how cute Claire and Jacob looked in their matching outfits), but other than that our day was filled with Wii games, some reading, napping, making hamburgers, a cake, & homemade ice cream, laundry, and a little time in the yard. In the evening we went to our dear friends' going away party. We have been buddies with Paul & Amber since long before we all had kids, and though we have moved to the suburbs and they still lived in the city, we see them a few times a year and love it every time! They are lifelong friends! Paul recently got a job in New York City, so he and Amber and their daughter, Hannah, will be leaving today for a new chapter in their lives --- which will hopefully end with them moving back to Dallas. It was fun to get to spend the holiday with good friends!

At the party, we visited while the kids swam... then we visited some more while they ate.  Then, the kids got to do a few small firework-type things.

After the party we headed back toward our house to find a place to watch fireworks.  We found a spot, spread out our beach towels, and watched the sky light up with our little family.

It was a fun evening!  I am so thankful for the opportunity to celebrate this great country and so blessed that I get to live here and raise my kids here!  I love all of the tradition that goes along with this holiday, and I love seeing everyone be patriotic!

God Bless America!

Fun day. Too bad it included saying goodbye to good friends.

What a good 4th of July you had after your fun trip Amy. Yes, God Bless America... the land of the free and home of the brave. I just hope our nation continues to be the "land of the free". God have mercy!
