After we spent some time at the Today Show and Rockefeller Center, we headed toward the Museum of Natural History & Central Park. I've mentioned before how we all loved the subway system - especially Allie. Here are a few pictures of our travels across the city via the subway and our own 2 - make that 6 - feet.

Corey and I found this pretty funny....
Since Allie was a little bitty thing she was always one to do her best to push the limits right up to the very edge of the boundaries that we set for her. Yes, because of my precious girl, I read Dobson's The Strong Willed Child and a myriad of other books trying to figure out how to wrangle her without crushing her spirit and will. We were always told that her strong will and desire to push the limits would benefit her someday, and now, 13 years into this gig, I am starting to see that it is true. Anyway... when we were in New York and would wait for the subway train to arrive, there were tiles on the floor that created a "line" that you were supposed to stand behind. Corey pointed out that this is the way that Allie would stand and wait. Yes sir-ee, just as close as she possibly could.

We were often very tired and "hurt" was not a big enough word to express how badly our feet ached from all of the walking we did. I was surprised at how uncommon benches and places to sit and rest were in NYC. Sometimes, a person's just got to squat a minute.
Yes, this train is speeding past Allie! She loved feeling the wind in her hair when the subway arrived.

When we got off the subway, we headed toward the Museum of Natural History. Our walk led us right along the side of Central Park and was beautiful! It also led us past some residential streets that were lined with brownstones. I was so happy to see a neighborhood like this! Before we came upon it, I had just said I that I wanted to see a part of New York City that looked like where the Huxtables (from The Cosby Show) lived.

Before we arrived at the museum, we were undecided if we would take the time to actually walk through it or not. We really wanted to, but we decided that we would have to do that on another trip. Our list of things to see and do was just too long to justify taking that much time to spend in one place. We did, however, enjoy seeing the things in the lobby and outside of the museum. I would love it if we could go back someday for long enough to go through many of the wonderful museums that are in NYC!
When we left the museum, we headed to explore a part of Central Park that we had not seen yet, and we stopped by a vendor on the sidewalk to get snacks for the walk. I tried a pretzel this time - which was nowhere close to as good as the New York hot dogs.
There were so many things about New York that are so different from the daily culture that we have at home. One of them - that Allie and I thought was so cute - were the little school kids walking around Central Park with their teachers.
Next up: Central Park

What a great trip! You packed in so much!
I was going to say the same thing. Everytime I think you're finishing your NYC blogs, you post another one. Great planning!
