A Weekend Away

This weekend we went to a hotel near home for a mini-vacation to celebrate our anniversary and Father's Day. It was a blast! Very relaxing and fun for all of us.

We arrived at the hotel Friday afternoon and went for a swim.

That evening we went to the local minor league baseball game.
They have a beautiful ballpark where you can buy lawn seats. We took a blanket and relaxed as we watched the game. Corey even took a nap.
Jack stood at the fence almost the entire game hoping to catch a ball.
Coop thought that he might try to catch one too... but his attention did not last the whole game like his big brother.

Cooper was getting tired, but we stayed the whole time because they were having fireworks after the game.
It was a GREAT fireworks show!

Saturday we slept late, ate a big breakfast, spent several hours at the pool, and took a long nap. That night Corey and I had planned to go to dinner for our anniversary. We decided to take the kids with us, and we went to a Japanese hibachi grill. They loved it. As we were walking away from the restaurant, I was thinking that it is a bit unorthodox that we took our kids to dinner with us for our anniversary... then I got to thinking that one day - when we are old and gray - we are going to wish for nothing else than to have all of our kids with us on special occasions. It brought tears to my eyes. I am really so very thankful that we got to have this special dinner together!

You can't see them in this picture, but Corey gave me some beautiful diamond earrings for our anniversary. I have never had any, and I LOVE them!!!
When we got back from dinner, we went for what we called a "midnight swim". (It was actually just 10:00pm.) The kids were so intrigued with the idea of swimming in the dark. And yes, Corey and I are very sunburned! Earlier that day, we sat by the pool and read our books, and we got very pink doing it!

Sunday we sat outside at our hotel and ate breakfast, went for a morning swim, rested, read our books, then packed up and headed home.
Corey is now enjoying his Father's Day - on the couch, watching golf. Just the way it should be. :)

Life is good!

What fun! I'm glad you were able to get away for a bit, kids too. Careful with those burns...Ian just got 2nd degree burns yesterday. Yep, we're bad parents. :-(

I am so glad that you had such a fun mini vacation. I love your outlook on having the kids with you at your anniversary dinner...it is so true. Allan and I were just talking today about how deeply in love we are with Claire (we can't even put it into words) and we don't want her to grow up, but I guess we better accept that it is going to happen, so we need to just enjoy what we can get now.

Amy, I think it is wonderful that you included your kids for your anniversary. They will treasure that weekend memory for a lifetime. And it's true... someday you will long for your children to be all around you. As we know, that can happen sometimes with much effort, and then sometimes it just cannot. Be encouraged though; you will find that every stage of your kids' growing up; from babies to teenagers and then as adults, is and will be filled with wonderful, fun, and memorable moments. Who knows, there might even come a day when you'll WANT your kids to spread their wings and fly so that you and your sweeties can have some undivided time together... again. :0)
