Life... According To Allie

Allie has the funniest sense of humor.  Very Powell-like.  Very dry.  Very clever.  She is not the class-clown type, but she is the type that pulls just the right thing out of her hat at just the right moment.  Today, we spent the entire day together going from appointment to appointment to appointment, and she cracked me up several times...

As we were driving past a shopping center this afternoon, we noticed fire trucks, ambulances, and police cars in front of a restaurant, and the firefighters were walking around in all of their gear with axes.  It seemed like something really bad must have been happening, and we all noticed it.  As we progressed down the road another fire truck and ambulance passed us and were headed toward the scene.  To lighten the concerned mood of the car, I sincerely said to the rescue vehicles, "May the force be with you." (For those of you that don't know, all moms talk to vehicles... and stop lights... and cows... and trains while they drive.  Sometimes even without kids in the car - by accident.  Moms with boys may or may not speak in Star Wars language.)  Allie started laughing.  She said, "When Dad sees an ambulance going down the road, he prays for it.  When, you see one, you say, 'May the force be with you?!?'"

A little while later, a friend of Allie's that was with us was telling us that she wasn't going to eat candy today because she is fasting this week.  Just as she got the word "fasting" out, Allie said under her breath, "Now, there's another way to say 'you're grounded'."

Allie is my kind of gal. I think that she is one of the funniest people I know and it comes so easily. I love wit more than silliness (most of the time).
